Blogging about the things that I love to do including learning and implementing homesteading, sustainability and permaculture practices into my daily life. I also use this blog as an online journal writing about the day in and day out happenings in my life which include balancing family, work and the needs of the homestead, all while keeping in mind that you have to stop and smell the roses and count your blessings along the way.

Happy Wednesday and Spring Garden Progress.
Just a quick note to remind myself that I planted onions and heirloom tomatoes yesterday after work. The rest of it is coming along and I need to get some pictures up of the new growth. I noticed a couple of holes in the leaves of the potatoes and bell peppers and was reminded I need to find a good recipe for organic bug spray, I was hoping to stay away from things like 7 dust. I know there is one with a mix of veggie oil, dish soap and water but don't know the exact measurements, anyone got one??

The homestead dreamer should really think long and hard before choosing between buying raw land and an established place with electricity...
Hmmm, I think my hubby may make something like you`re describing. Let me ask him when he gets home from work and if he has a 'recipe' I`ll pass it along!
ReplyDeleteSorry to say I don't have a recipe for bugs, but

Dear Laurie,
ReplyDeleteDo you have a GPS to help you get to your patients? Send me an email.
I noticed some bugs on my cabbage yesterday. I use self rising flour on those. It helps sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI complain about all these guineas, but they are the best "organic" bug control I have used.
Have a great weekend.

Laura,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by for a visit. I love having visitors.
Possibly your little family knows of woodland days and firefly nights. Me thinks so.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter day and that the farm crops and animals are well. Along with yourselves of course.
Have a great week.
Ordered my SeedSaver seeds yesterday so they should be in Washington by the time I get back for the summer. Can't wait...it's getting warm here in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteGood for you regarding the chicken! Am going to put a few hens in my freezer this year for sure...I've been putting it off in past years.
Laura, Over the years I believe I have tried every recipe for homemade repellents known to man. I even contacted our University Extention Service for suggestions, I am sorry to say nothing worked for me. My nemesis is the xxxx Japanese Beetle. I finally cut out all my roses and had to break down and use Sevin.I was not happy about this, but it did work. I would suggest contacting your local organic extension service or university they just might have an answer. Please I am begging you if you do find a solution, let me know! Happy Spring, happy planting.
