My baby is growing up. With my busy schedule I try to handle little Rocky as often as possible, including picking up his feet. Today I had the farrier add him to the hoof trim regimen that I have done on my horses every six weeks. He was not a happy boy. He fought with everything he had, but in the end it got done. He is a sweet horse and I continue to enjoy the him for the surprise gift he was to me. I won't begin to be able ride him for about two years, I hope that he will eventually become the replacement trail horse for my trusty old horse Red who is now 27 and just beginning to show signs of his age, he will be a hard horse to replace, hopefully with lots of love and careful training Rocky will fill his shoes someday.

Traumatic Day for Rocky
My baby is growing up. With my busy schedule I try to handle little Rocky as often as possible, including picking up his feet. Today I had the farrier add him to the hoof trim regimen that I have done on my horses every six weeks. He was not a happy boy. He fought with everything he had, but in the end it got done. He is a sweet horse and I continue to enjoy the him for the surprise gift he was to me. ReplyDeleteI took a yearling training class in college and lemme tell ya - that was a hoot! Our TB filly did fine with the farrier, it was leading - yup, just walking around in the barn - that we had the biggest problem with. I've never been dragged and run at so much in my life! Not mention she broke my phone. . .
How precious he is, I know he will be his own special self, and a blessing to you in the process!

ReplyDeleteSo happy to have found u as u seem to have many of the same desires as I...however, age and a returned cancer have derailed my ability to pursue them. For now I hope to live vicariously thru ur blog. I've had a huge desire to make cheese and butter so will be checking u out often. Sounds like u have a wonderful family and r able to really enjoy each other...not all families can live together under the same roof and survive. lol Good luck as u live ur dream!
